2023 Jeep Avenger Detailed as FWD Electric SUV for Europe, ICE Variant Coming Soon

The Jeep Avenger, the brand’s very first all-electric production vehicle, was presented for the first time at the Paris Motor Show 2022. The small SUV designed for the European market is based on the foundations of Stellantis, with a front-mounted electric motor and a WLTP range of 400 km (249 miles). Besides the EV variant, the Avenger will also be available with a turbocharged gasoline engine.

Jeep previously revealed the design of the Avenger at Jeep 4Xe Day last month, but now we have a huge gallery showing the model from every possible angle, along with interior shots and the announcement of its specifications.

Modern, rugged styling, practical, tech-filled cabin

The exterior has a classic Jeep vibe, with the seven-slot grille, split LED headlights, muscular fenders, trapezoidal wheel arches, X-shaped LED graphics on the taillights, aluminum scuff plates, aluminum and a heavy dose of plastic coating on the bumpers and sills. Jeep says the 360-degree wrap and shielded headlights provide low-speed impact protection, which is most common in Europe. Additionally, the alloy wheels are 18-inches in diameter improving the proportions, and the roof is available in black for a two-tone treatment.

Inside, the design is simple with a horizontal body-coloured dashboard, a digital cockpit and several storage compartments with a total capacity of 34 liters (1.2 cubic feet) in the first row combined with a trunk of 380 liters (13.4 cubic feet). . The 10.25-inch standalone touchscreen incorporates the latest Uconnect infotainment system compatible with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, combined with a 7-inch or 10.25-inch digital instrument panel. Equipment also includes automatic climate control, automatic headlights, 360-degree parking sensors and a rear view camera with “drone view”. In terms of ADAS, the Avenger is capable of Level 2 autonomy, thanks to features such as Traffic Jam Assist, Blind Spot Monitoring, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Centering and Active Park Assist.

Starting today and running through November 30, Jeep is offering a pre-booking initiative for the Jeep Avenger 1st Edition which is packed with features. The model is available in Sun or Granite colors with a Volcano roof, or in full Volcano livery. It also comes standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, privacy glass and full LED lights. Inside, the standard kit includes dual 10.25-inch screens, wireless charging, multi-color ambient lighting, premium heated black seats with yellow accents, height-adjustable load floor and power tailgate hands free.

At the Paris Motor Show, Jeep is also showing a custom version of the Avenger with a granite exterior tint, Volcano roof, gloss black wheels, blue accents and hood decals with an X-camo livery that is also present inside the cabin. The company will offer more than 100 accessories and customization packs for the Avenger allowing customization.

Stellantis Underpinnings, EV and Gasoline Variants

The Jeep Avenger is based on the eCMP architecture, as are the Peugeot e-2008, Opel Moka-e and Citroën DS3 E-Tense, although it is the most compact of the bunch, measuring 4,076 mm (160 .5 inches) long. . This figure makes it 154 mm (6.1 in) shorter than the Renegade, positioning it as the new entry point into the Jeep lineup.

The SUV features a front-mounted 400-volt electric motor producing 154 PS (115 kW / 156 hp) and 260 Nm (191.8 lb-ft) of torque. Those numbers are the same as many other electric vehicles in the Stellantis portfolio, but Jeep says the second-generation electric motor is the first to be launched by Emotors, a joint venture of Stellantis and Nidec Leroy-Somer Holding.

The energy is stored in a battery with a capacity of 54 kWh mounted under the front and rear seats and the central tunnel. Jeep claims the WLTP range is 400 km (249 miles) in the combined cycle and up to 550 km (342 miles) in the urban cycle where EVs are most efficient. Using a 100kW Mode 4 cable and fast charger, the battery can recharge from 20-80% in 24 minutes, or add 30 km (19 miles) of range in three minutes. When plugged into a regular wall box using an 11kW Mode 3 cable, a full charge takes 5.5 hours.

Despite previous rumours, there’s been no mention of an all-wheel-drive variant, with the zero-emissions Avenger being a front-wheel-drive-only model for now. Interestingly, Jeep said that in Italy and Spain the Avenger 1st Edition will also be available with a turbocharged gasoline engine alongside the EV. This will most likely be the 1.2-litre Puretech from Stellantis’ parts bin, which explains the twin exhaust pipes seen in earlier camouflaged prototype sightings.

The Avenger may be a civilized B-SUV, but Jeep hasn’t forgotten its origins. As a result, the model offers the best ground clearance in its segment sitting 200 mm (7.9 inches) from the ground, while having good off-road angles thanks to the short overhangs. Specifically, the approach and breakthrough angles are 20 degrees and the departure angle is 32 degrees. The model also comes standard with Jeep’s Selec-Terrain (with Normal, Eco, Sport, Snow, Mud and Sand modes) and Hill Descent Control.

The Jeep Avenger will be produced at the Stellantis plant in Tychy, Poland, following recent investments. As we mentioned earlier, the model is already available for pre-order in specific European markets, ahead of its market launch in early 2023. Antonella Bruno, head of Jeep Europe, expects the Avenger to become the model best-selling in Jeep’s portfolio by 2024. The company suggests the Avenger is the first in a “full portfolio of capable all-electric vehicles” that will be “right-sized for Europe”, confirming four launches of electric vehicles by 2025.
