College football scores, standings, highlights: Clemson leads Florida State to set up undefeated ACC matchup

The No. 4 Clemson faced an early deficit at Florida State in Week 7 but escaped with a 34-28 win after beating the Seminoles 23-0 for an extended stretch midway through the game. Florida State tied the game to within six points with 2:17 remaining, but failed to convert an inbounds kick as the Tigers improved to 7-0.

With the win, Clemson could rise in the polls on Sunday due to Alabama’s No. 3 loss to Tennessee’s No. 6. Although Clemson was barely dominant in the win, he led 34-14 for part of the second half as running back Will Shipley scored 121 yards on 20 carries. The win sets up an ACC unbeaten clash next week as the Tigers host No. 18 Syracuse after the Orange failed to prove at 6-0 with a 24-9 victory over NC State No. 15

In other ranked action, No. 22 Kentucky snapped a two-game losing streak by knocking out No. 16 Mississippi State 27-17 behind a huge game from Chris Rodriguez Jr. The senior running back collected 190 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries. Wildcats star quarterback Will Levis returned to the field Saturday after missing last week’s loss to South Carolina with a foot injury and completed 17 of 23 passes for 230 yards, a touchdown and an interception.
