Gamma Scientific has announced that its innovative new offering, the NED Rx tester, has been chosen as a finalist for the SPIE Prism Awards 2023 in the Test and Measurement category.

The NED Rx Tester is the world’s first test system allowing AR/VR device manufacturers to fully test their headsets on a wide range of human vision corrections, including astigmatism, nearsightedness (myopia) and low vision. farsightedness (farsightedness).

The technology provides comprehensive testing, measurement, and verification for manufacturers to integrate their end users’ custom eye prescriptions into vision-corrected AR/VR equipment. Gamma Scientific strives to create a safe, seamless, and impactful digital experience while maintaining transparent, high-quality performance metrics.

AR/VR manufacturers can easily integrate these test platforms into high-volume production environments, extending their reach to 75% of the adult population who need vision-correcting eyewear worldwide. The fully automated software test suite provides immediate insight, as well as comprehensive metrics for post-test analysis.

“Vision accommodation in AR/VR is key to achieving mass consumer adoption of the technology,” said Sonika Obheroi, product manager of AR/VR testing solutions at Gamma Scientific. “Combining a user’s personalized eye prescription into an already complex AR/VR optical architecture and precisely characterizing the resulting transparency performance is a daunting challenge. With the NED Rx tester, we have automated testing by effectively mimicking uniquely any human eye given AR/VR could be custom-designed, helping device makers quantify and predict the end-user experience.”

Kong Loh, CEO of Gamma Scientific, said, “It’s exciting to develop technologies that leverage our experience and expertise that help our customers and their end users enjoy a reliable and more immersive experience in AR/VR.

Gamma Scientific’s family of NED test solutions conforms to the latest standards developed by IEC and SID, including ongoing contributions to the International Committee for Display Metrology (ICDM), part of the Committee for Definitions and of SID standards responsible for setting standards for AR/VR display metrology.
